49 Stones Info
a short bio:
In early 2010, 49 Stones loaded up a pick-up truck and made the 8
hour journey from Kansas City to Dallas, heading towards a 10 day
crash recording session with producer Bill Westfall. After months of
meticulous mixing and mastering, the album release of Turn It On was
set for December 18, 2010.
Most of the time, the sound of 49 Stones is markedly aggressive. The
distinctive grooves of drummer Kyle Scheel lay the foundation for
Garrett Cox’s complex and melodic bass lines. Brett Cox’s energetic lead
guitar riffs seem to melt artistically onto the rhythms. Rising from
the middle is the voice of Emma, the band’s lyricist and rhythm
guitarist. Much like the rest of the band, she easily moves from
hypnotically seductive near-whispers to instantaneously face-melting
screams. Because of their innovative approach to rock music, it’s
tempting to label them as experimental or progressive, but in truth,
the overall sound is far too mainstream for either.
One reviewer said of the new album’s leading track, “Crowded”: “It is
rock's answer to CSI Miami's club scenes, lights flashing while music
pulses and vibrates you into submission, only in this case it is
pounding rock and not electronic sludge. I swear to God, when you turn
it up you have to move just to avoid nosebleeds and a rash.”
